A Folk Lore
It was a dark shuddering night,
I looked, left, then right,
The cold engulfing,
I could only think of one thing ..
My love,
My soul’s mourning,
A hope, a home,
I kept running .
A lake on the left, a dense wood on the right,
Again I kept running,
Then a rustle,
I looked directly behind me,
A light,
A light like no other,
I ran, I ran,
The light, to myself, the light,
The cross,
A church,
A damsel,
Needing, not wanting, I asked:
‘Who are you?’
The Church’s door open,
Imagined sanctuary, .. sanctuary:
I repeated:
‘Who are you?’
Her tongue darted in flame,
‘Who are you?’
Darkness engulfed me.
